Guessens Mews is the redevelopment of the prestigious grade II* listed building and former home of the renowned Poet Edward Young. Located in the sought after village of Welwyn.
The development has been carefully designed by the award winning local architect Ivan Clarke.
The designs have been carefully created, taking into account the beautiful period features of the house and enhancing the original glory and character of the building to establish 5 stunning homes from the existing house and 2 thoughtful new builds.
All of the properties benefit from having full access at the rear to the spectacular South West facing shared gardens and River Mimram.
The team at Netherdown feel very privileged to have the opportunity to be working on the restoration of such an amazing building and know that Guessens has been a hugely important part of the historical fabric of Welwyn village and therefore really wanted to be able to share journey with everyone.
We have put together a media slide show of photos and videos showing some of the build and refurbishment works we have undertaken so far, there have been many challenges within the process and extensive remedial works have been needed to ensure the structural stability of this magnificent building. We have also had the pleasure of discovering some fascinating historical features and items along the way, including parts of the original 13th century farm house timber frame, ornate fireplaces, 16th century hand painted Delph tiles and original hessian backed wall papers to name a few.
